The President’s Corner – Barbara Dawson

Are you ready to try something NEW?
My 15 year old daughter auditioned for and got a part in a play called Miss Mary Mack that’s playing at The Box on Lomas and 12th Street here in Albuquerque. She was scared when she went to audition because she had never been in The Box before and was afraid she wouldn’t know anyone.
When she got there, several people thought they knew her. They were sure they had seen her in a number of other productions. Come to find out, my daughter has a twin! They are the same size, same color hair and style, same facial expressions; they dress alike, and even have some of the same mannerisms!
I asked my daughter the other day what she’s enjoyed the most about being in this production and she said “the cast.” She looks forward to the carpool and enjoys the people so much. She’s going to hate to see the show end on the 17th of May.
NAWBO-NNM is also trying something new. The Embassy Suites is sponsoring and underwriting the cost of the meeting on May 20th. This meeting will honor and celebrate our Corporate Partners, Platinum Members and YOU. We will not be having a sit-down meal but instead heavy hors d’oeuvres.
If you are a new member, you may be hesitant, like my daughter; to come into this meeting feeling that you don’t know anyone. You may be a bit uncomfortable because you don’t quite know how to approach the women you meet there or you may wonder if this will be time well spent. My guess is that many of our long-term members will be delighted that this meeting will give them lots of opportunities to re-connect with each other and network with new members.
My expectation is that, no matter how long you’ve been in NAWBO, like my daughter you’ll find someone who reminds you of you. Perhaps the connection will be your industry, your family, your friends, your community service, or perhaps the same alma mater.
I’m looking forward to meeting you all there. Let’s walk away saying …”What I like best about NAWBO are the incredible, powerful, women who I get to work and play with.”
Be sure to register at NAWBONM.org before the 15th. And the cost this month is only $15.00 for members and guests. See you on the 20th.

Mastermind Groups
Here’s a quick quiz – see if you answer YES to any of these questions:
- Do you sometimes have challenges that are too big for you to solve alone?
- Do you want to grow your business, but aren’t sure how?
- Do you ever wonder if you’re making the right decision for your business?
- Do you ever wonder what other business owners think, feel and do?
- Do you sometimes feel alone at the top?
- Do you wish you had a board of directors like major corporations with people whose expertise you can trust for advice?
If you did, then joining a NAWBO Mastermind group may be for you! There are only two requirements: that you are a member in good standing and you maintain the confidentiality of your group.
If you’re interested, please download and fill out the Mastermind Letter of Interest and email it to Julie Epling or fax to 505-880-2799 attention: Julie. Or you can simply call Julie for more information at 880-2719.

Have you updated your NAWBO contact information lately? You’d never let your business card show incorrect contact information; but how about your “business card” in the NAWBO-NNM member directory?
NAWBO-NNM creates our member directory from the information you enter in the NAWBO national site.
You may have seen an email from NAWBO national about their recent website overhaul. Now would be a good time to check it out and update your profile information at the same time. Just go to the NAWBO web site and complete the Member Login at the top left side of the home screen. If you’ve forgotten your password, there’s a quick link right there and they’ll email it promptly. Your profile will pop up on the screen as soon as you login.
Please update your information soon, as the Communications Committee will be publishing a new directory soon.
