Acknowledging the Gifts

Beginnings and endings are the milestones in a cycle. And while the most amazing journey happens between those markers, each deserves acknowledgment its own way. Endings are an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned and moments to be cherished. I have more than once only half humorously said that being President this past year was like taking a yearlong Intuitive Anatomy class.

Intuitive Anatomy is an intensive three week ThetaHealing class intended to groom healers, clear long held belief systems, and through the process vastly improve their healing and intuitive abilities. Each day a different system in the body is explored for long and deeply held belief systems. Since our inner beliefs reflect the outer experiences, as these belief systems are changed, major shifts are experienced each day. The experience is much like a healer’s marathon, where you first learn to go within, clear you internal issues and then learn to move out of your paradigm to be able to experience the outside world from a place of interacting instead of reacting. The class is truly a personal healing journey where you emerge a vastly different person from where you started. You only truly realize the quantum shift when you compare where you are to where you started from. When I look back on this past year, I can say that I have emerged a greatly transformed person from when I started this year and I’m truly grateful for all the learning opportunities.

Leadership, like teaching is about illuminating a path of opportunities and shining the light on what can be when the exponential energy of a group is focused on a goal. This year’s them has been “Financial Possibilities, Financial Opportunities” and each goal and decision was with that theme in mind. It is my hope that each of you had been touched in some way and found new possibilities and opportunities, because truly any change brings with it opportunities if we are willing to be open to seeing something in a new way. When we are open to looking beyond the fear that change can stir up and look for the positive gift the change presents, we are able to learn the lesson and move forward. Every negative has a positive, it part of the balance in the Universe. If we’re willing to explore and find that positive, since the mind doesn’t hold onto to anything that doesn’t serve a purpose, we can acknowledge the gift in the change presented to us and move forward and progress without having to repeat lessons.

I would like to end this month’s letter with a selection from my gratitude list for this past year.

  • I am grateful for all the new members that have recognized the value of this incredible chapter and joined our amazing community.
  • I am grateful to all the members who have shared the value of our chapter with their friends and colleagues and invited them to join our growing and supportive community.

  • I am grateful to our Economic Development director for her consistency and commitment.
  • I am grateful to our President Elect for diligently growing our Platinum member roster.
  • I am grateful to my board members that stepped up to the challenge to contributed to this organization’s growth and vitality this year.

“When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.” – Alexander Graham Bell

As one cycle ends, a new one is poised to begin.

With love, gratitude and prosperity blessings,

Debbie Steg

June 16 Program –Installation of 2010-11 NAWBO-NNM Officers

image Edie Hand, co-author of Women of True Grit, will speak at the installation of the 2010-2011 board of directors of the Nation Association of Women Business Owners-Northern New Mexico chapter at 5:30pm on Wednesday, June 16th at the Embassy Suites in Albuquerque.

Women of True Grit was launched in Washington, DC last March. The book, also co-authored by Tina Savas, is comprised of “stories and secrets from the women who did it: work, succeed, pave the way for others to triumph.”

Two of the women who are featured in the book will also appear at the event. Patricia “Terri” Sperry Carr who lives in Orange County, California is one of the first women to work as a systems engineer for IBM and Faye Heller of Pennsylvania found her path to freedom in the trash business. Ms. Carr is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and Ms. Heller is the mother of an Albuquerque Police Department officer. Another local woman of note, actress Angelina Torres, was interviewed for the book prior to her recent death and is included as a “woman of true grit” which she certainly was.

The forward to the book was written by Barbara Mandrell and the poem was contributed by Dr. Maya Angelou. The publisher is Canterbury House Publishing, Ltd.

International Forum: A Year of Building Awareness
Eloise Gift
Director, NAWBO NNM International Forum
Email Eloise

The NAWBO NNM International Forum Committee set a goal to publish or present at least 12 times for the year, information that would lead to the building of awareness of the International Forum and its role in NAWBO National as well as NAWBO NNM. With the publication of this article, we will have far surpassed our goal. We published relevant articles every month except one, and throughout the year, we also provided information about international organizations, celebrations, and meetings on Agora. We made presentations and announcements at our dinner and satellite breakfast meetings.

We hope you had at least one opportunity to hear or read of the NAWBO NNM International Forum and perhaps gained some insight into the opportunities and possibilities international relations and affiliations could hold for your business. It all begins with awareness.

There are many ways that we can contribute to the international community, starting with the awareness that we are already a part of it. —Jan-Marie Esch (Creative Insights and NAWBO NNM International Forum Committee Member)

In my business, Pattern Design, I have supplied directly to a company in Mexico, BC, and the Dominican Republic. I have worked for over 25 years with other countries directly and indirectly. I have visited factories and trained workers in Hawaii, Bali, Java. With a bit more info and experience, I believe I could expand easily and comfortably. Whether, local, regional or international, we can benefit from the exchange of information, boost the role of women in business, and in so doing, better the human condition. ―Sally Beers (Owner, Pattern Design and NAWBO NNM Member of International Forum Committee)

These excerpts were distilled from our discussions as we spent a year talking, brainstorming, exchanging ideas, and sharing our views, convictions, and experiences as women and business owners in a changed and still rapidly changing world. If we did not convince you that you are ― intentionally or not, ― doing business internationally, we hope we at least made you aware of some of the opportunities and possibilities.
