The President’s Corner – Barbara Dawson

How many of you have had the experience of being pregnant? I was going to school and living in Dallas when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I was thrilled and concerned because it was a first for me. Unknown territory. Would I be able to get through the 9 months without medical complications? What would this kid look like? Would it be a girl or a boy? What would I do about finishing school? Gratefully, the feelings of great anticipation and excitement overruled my fears.
Then the labor started. Talk about unknown territory. Thank goodness I had a very experienced midwife by my side. I had often heard that the first labor and delivery were the longest. The 36 hours of labor felt like seconds when my baby lay in my arms and she was beautiful. The discomfort, the fear and the self doubt disappeared as I embraced this new life, this child, this precious one.
My year of service as President of the Northern NM NAWBO chapter comes to an end this month. While considering the year, and what to share with you, it dawned on me where I’d felt this feeling before: the birth of my kids. Granted, the gestation period was a bit long — 12 months. The labor and delivery didn’t all happen toward the end of my term. In fact the labor seemed to be greatest in the first few months. And not one but several midwives stood by me. They were the experienced members and past presidents that stepped forward to provide support, expertise and compassionate listening when needed. It is with great pride and humility that I get to embrace this past year and the precious relationships that have been delivered to me to enjoy for years to come.
On June 17th a new board will be installed and several of the board members who have served this organization well over the last year and more, will be stepping down. I look forward to seeing all of you at this meeting so we can give the old board a hearty send off and support the new board members as we continue to grow under Deborah Steg’s grounded and loving leadership. She has invited a guest speaker to the meeting. Chellie Campbell is from California, an author, a business woman and is a past President of the LA chapter. It promises to be a great start to a great year.
My initial feelings of fear and anticipation have been replaced with feelings of pride and gratitude as I join the ranks of past presidents. I look forward to supporting, mentoring, and teaching as the opportunities arise. I will enjoy watching this chapter, our members and its leaders step forward in empowering ways as we all continue to give life to our businesses.

June 17 – Wealthy Spirit Wisdom and Incoming Chapter Board
Wealthy Spirit Wisdom with Chellie Campbell, Author of “The Wealthy Spirit” and “Zero to Zillionaire” Find out how to mind your money without losing your mind! Then, to add to the excitement, installation of the new chapter Board of Directors and presentation of the 2008/2009 Kudos Awards.
Chellie treats money disorders—spending bulimia and income anorexia. Her Financial Stress Reduction® Workshops are led by certified Coaches around the country. Chellie’s goal is to help people create more cash, bigger sales, less debt and more time off for fun!
Recession, depression, obsession. War, terrorism, disasters. Bank failures, foreclosures, bailouts. Yikes! 2008 was not our most wonderful year. People are tired of the doom and gloom in the news, and America’s native optimism is clamoring to make a return. How do we get the Age of Aquarius back on track, with a return to joy, prosperity, and ethics?
Half of what Chellie calls “Financial Stress Reduction®” is “Minding Your Money” through three basic steps: 1) Think Positive 2) Send Out Ships and 3) Count Your Money. And the other half is “Without Losing Your Mind”: 1) Swim With Dolphins 2) Survive the Storms and 3) Seek Balance and Enlightenment. Anyone who follows this simple program will be amazed at the “Magic Money” that appears in their life.
Chellie Campbell is the creator of the popular Financial Stress Reduction® Workshops now taught by certified Coaches throughout the country. She is the author of The Wealthy Spirit and Zero to Zillionaire, both published by Sourcebooks, Inc. She is one of Marci Shimoff’s “Happy 100” in her NYT bestseller Happy for No Reason, quoted as a “Financial Guru” in James Arthur Ray’s NYT bestseller Harmonic Wealth, and contributed stories to Jack Canfield’s recent books You’ve Got to Read This Book! and Life Lessons from Chicken Soup for the Soul. She is prominently quoted as a financial expert in The Los Angeles Times, Pink, Good Housekeeping, Lifetime, Essence, Woman’s World and more than 40 popular books. For “30 Days to a Wealthy Spirit” daily inspirational emails and other information, visit her website or send an email.
“Read a page a day to multiply your money, decrease your stress and vastly improve your life and lifestyle!”—Mark Victor Hansen, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul“Chellie is probably going to be the next Suze Orman—she’s that good! Her book contains not JUST affirmations, but small daily ACTIONS that move you toward personal and financial success.”—Lin Painchaud-Steinman, Park Edge Books

Community Outreach
What a feeling to give back! Thank you to NAWBO and its membership for taking an interest in doing so. We’re lucky to have such a giving group. Here is an update from the Community Outreach Committee on upcoming charity events and a look back at past events. Mark your calendars.
Upcoming charity events:
July and August 2009: Membership speaks and we listen! Based on your feedback to the survey asking what charities you would like to see NAWBO support, we have chosen The Barrett House. Dorothee, Director of The Barrett House, will speak briefly at the July meeting about the organization and how we can give back to the community through them. We plan to accept donations in both July and August. Stay tuned for more detailed information.
December 2009 meeting: Memberships second choice was Big Brothers Big Sisters which we’ll support in December. Again, details to come. March 2010: Roadrunner FoodbankA look back:
Thank you all for supporting the Roadrunner Foodbank in March. We almost filled an entire bin with non-perishable goods and received a couple nice cash donations. Thank you so very much for helping feed New Mexico!
Also, in December ’08, we gave over 50 pieces of clothing to YWCA’s “Our Sister’s Closet” to help women in need dress for success to help them through the employment process.
Thanks again for all your support in giving back!
