The President’s Corner – Robin Dozier Otten
I wish a happy and prosperous New Year to each one of you. I hope you had some relaxing time with family and friends over the holidays and are now ready to lead your business to its fullest potential. Our chapter’s board of directors is working diligently to make our organization a great resource to you, and we need you input to make sure we’re on the right track. Last month I mentioned our new on-line member survey that I hope you’ll use to let us know what you’re thinking.
Our Holiday Networking Party was a huge success. The evening included a fashion show by Articles for Her, a silent auction with gifts for the holidays and tables featuring charitable activities that encouraged everyone to take a few minutes to think about other people that we don’t even know. We honored our servicemen and women and made gifts for the children at Cuidando los Niños and the Presbyterian Hospital. I think everyone left the meeting feeling the spirit of the holidays.
In January, we will make our annual trip to Santa Fe. On Monday evening, January 24th, we will have a NAWBO-NNM table at the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce legislative reception. The following morning, Tuesday, January 25th, we will take part in The Association of Commerce and Industry’s Business Day in Santa Fe. There is a special room rate at the Eldorado Hotel for those attending Business Day that you can access on the ACI website (http://www.acinm.org) If time permits after the Business Day program, those interested will visit the Capitol and distribute our Public Policy positions and the ‘save the date’ information for our Speak Out event to legislators, many of whom are new and may be hearing about NAWBO for the first time. Our monthly meeting will follow at a luncheon at 11:30am at the Eldorado Hotel on Tuesday, January 25th. (Please note that this is a different day of the week and week of the month than our usual meeting date.)
I hope that you are taking advantage of the networking opportunities offered by our monthly satellite meetings in Uptown and Santa Fe as well as Mastermind groups and the various committees available. Once again, I ask you to let members of your board of directors hear your ideas for increasing our organization’s positive impact on you and your business. I look forward to seeing you at our meeting in Santa Fe on January 25th.

DJ Heckes, owner and founder of EXHIB-IT!, published her book Full BRAIN Marketing for the Small Business in 2010. DJ’s passion for marketing can be seen not only in her company, but on every page in her book.
Full BRAIN Marketing helps busy small business owners stand out from the crowd. Everyone is focused on business development in this economy. Margins are thin and businesses can’t afford trial and error tactics. Businesses can gain a competitive advantage by leveraging both right brain (creative) and left brain (logical) thinking in their marketing efforts. Entrepreneurs learn secrets to accomplish successful marketing campaigns with less effort by doing it the right way, the first time!
Remember your strategic objective – the vision of what your business will be, once all is said and done. Your marketing strategy is the part of the overall business strategy that focuses on target marketing and how to attract and retain existing and prospective customers. Many businesses focus only on the strategic objective for marketing, but forget to include the financial and management strategies for business as well as personal development and development of staff.
Full BRAIN Marketing was recently featured in a two-part excerpt on WomenEntrepreneur.com, where Heckes appears as a guest blogger. WomenEntrepreneur.com was recently included in the Forbes list of “Top 100 Websites for Women.”
Full BRAIN Marketing – for the Small Business was named a finalist in both the “Entrepreneurship & Small Business” and “Marketing & Advertising” categories of the seventh annual “Best Books 2010” Awards by USA Book News. A marketing and tradeshow expert, Heckes reveals ways to balance traditional, digital and social media marketing to increase profitability and avoid unnecessary mistakes, obstacles and failures.
DJ understands the challenges and obstacles that small businesses encounter. She has overcome numerous obstacles and shares her expertise in her book.
