The President’s Corner – Robin Dozier Otten
August can be a month of beginnings and endings. Although traditionally, Labor Day weekend has been the unofficial end of summer and the time to begin our fall schedules, in recent years, school in New Mexico begins in August and brings a premature end to the slower pace of summer. Even before August began, the members of NAWBO-NNM’s new board of directors picked up the pace and began working to bring you an interesting and beneficial year of programming.
In July, the board held its annual planning retreat, lead by former NAWBO-NNM president and member of the national board of directors, Sandy Cody. We had a productive meeting and many good laughs as we learned more about one another and began to form the relationships and cement the friendships that we had already established. We talked about our obligations to you, the members of our organization. And we also talked about the expectations we have of you. All of us agreed to take on leadership responsibilities because we share the belief in NAWBO and we are convinced that our chapter can become THE organization that women business owners must join.
Our July meeting focused on the power of volunteers in our community. Erin Williams Young, former president of the Junior League of Albuquerque spoke about her commitment to voluntarism and inspired us to continue to make the time to “do good” in whatever ways fit our passions and talents. Julie Epling, our community outreach chairman, talked about choosing an organization that will be the recipient of our support this year. The directors of our chapter gave us a taste of what it would be like to volunteer to take part in the various committees that make our group strong. We hope those of you who were there enjoyed the meeting and found a niche that you’d like to fill for the year. If you couldn’t make the meeting, we hope you’ll think about how you’d like to take part. To fulfill the potential of our chapter will take a contribution from all of us, but we believe that the rewards each of us will reap will be well worth the effort.
One last comment on the subject of expectations: we EXPECT that you will tell us about the vision you have for our organization and how you think our NAWBO chapter can be improved. How can we make your NAWBO membership more rewarding for you and for your business? How can we attract other women business owners to our group and how shall we fulfill their needs once they join us? We sincerely want to hear from you. We believe your ideas will dazzle us!.

August 18 Program – The Science of Influence and the Art of Persuasive Presentations™
Persuasion is the #1 SKILL of highly successful and ultra-prosperous individuals. In fact, everything you want in life comes from a direct result of influence and persuasion. Persuasion begins in the mind, and the clearer you are about what you want, the better the chances of you actually getting it and being successful … but only if you understand the powers of persuasion and the subliminal triggers of influence, compliance, and motivation.
Matt Rix is one of America’s leading authorities on the science of influence and compliance combined with the art of persuasive presentation techniques.
Through his highly acclaimed speaking, training, and corporate partnership programs, he has helped thousands of clients whose careers depend on their powers of influence, motivation, and persuasion.
His formal education includes a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, post-graduate research in microbiology and biochemistry, and an MBA in Technology Management. His professional background comprises 22 years spanning international corporate presentations, executive-level communications, competitive intelligence, and technical sales training … not to mention over 9 years as a professional stand-up comedian and live-stage entertainer.
Matt’s cutting-edge Signature “Story-Selling” concepts are extremely effective because he combines the Science of Influence with his in-depth knowledge of Persuasive Presentation Skills. These techniques not only work for sales, marketing, leadership development, and corporate communications, but they are also highly beneficial when used in our personal lives (and even within our romantic relationships!)
His concepts are compelling, amazing, and undeniable … as is his tag-line:
“It’s Not What You Know or What You Say That Counts … It’s What People REMEMBER You Said and How You Made Them FEEL!”™
