PUBLIC POLICY UPDATE

image The trip to Santa Fe for Business Day was productive and fun!  NAWBO had a booth at the Legislative Reception on January 27, 2014. The event was well attended by legislators and businesses.  There were several membership packets given to women business owners that were interested in NAWBO.

The next day was Business Day at the Capital.  The NAWBO Position Statements were printed on cards and were put in each of the Legislator’s mail boxes.  Some of the committee members also delivered them to the individual legislator’s secretaries with hand written notes which makes a bigger impact.  We visited the Senate and House and ended with a nice lunch.

The Public Policy committee received weekly updates of business related bills during the 30 day session that were introduced at the committee level.  The Public Policy committee reviewed the bills and made recommendations to support the bills or reject them.  Those recommendations were given to the legislators in the committees.
Do you know who your legislators are?  Never fear, Public Policy is here!!!!  Public Policy set up a computer at February’s general meeting to help people find out who their state and federal representatives are.  We will continue to make this available in the upcoming general meetings so that our members and guests know who to contact for important issues affecting their businesses.
The Public Policy committee would like to start inviting our state legislators to meetings throughout the year so they and the membership can become better acquainted.  The committee has identified criteria and whom to target.  We will invite those that are involved in Business related committees and those that have come to Speak Out.  If you would like to invite your representative, let me know and I’ll be glad to contact them.

As always, anyone is welcome to attend our Public Policy committee meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month at Mimi’s Café at 7:30 am.  The next meeting will be March 26, 2014. RSVP to Lorie Guthrie at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
