President’s Newsletter - June 2013
EDUCATION, INSPIRATION & TRANSFORMATION…you have heard me say it at every meeting.
These were my goals this year for our NAWBO chapter. And I do believe that we have reached these goals and more. What I didn’t anticipate was how these goals would come back to me tenfold, to enrich my life and my business. This organization is comprised of an extraordinary group of women who have invested themselves in inspiring and supporting their sisters in the Women Owned Business community. You have heard of the movie, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen—well I think we are THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN!
As I look back over the last 12 months, I see so many highlights. We are full into our 20th year anniversary for this chapter, and to honor this landmark, we undertook a full blown organizational development process to take stock of where we are and where we envision this organization going for the future. As a result, we are actively restructuring our board and building a strategic plan that has its foundation in the results of the organizational development process.
The board this year has been very proactive in making the transition from our old ways of doing things to laying the foundation for an organization that embraces the new dynamics in a dramatically changing business environment. Our monthly programs brought us fresh new perspectives about how we grow our businesses and how we relate to the new generations who are reshaping our work force, our client base and the “products and services” that we offer.
We successfully presented three stellar opportunities for women business owners to broaden their possibilities to grow their businesses. The first was Go Global With NAWBO which was a day-long seminar giving very specific training and resources for doing business internationally.
The second was our annual Speak Out! meeting which created the opportunity for a dialogue between our legislators and our member on matters of Public Policy. This meeting, just before the start of the legislative session, gave us a forum for letting our legislators know the issues that are of concern for small business and to lobby for specific actions on the part of our legislators.
The third was our 2nd Annual NAWBO Means Business Seminar. The plenary speakers and breakout sessions provided powerful tools for taking our businesses to the next level.
All in all it has been a year filled with INSPIRATION, EDUCATION and opportunities for TRANSFORMATION. I have personally benefited from the efforts of you, our membership, and those of our extraordinary board.
I want to congratulate Edna Lopez, our incoming president and her new board. The new board is energized and enthusiastic about taking NAWBO to that next level of accomplishment and success and I encourage each of you to send them your thoughts and ideas and support for this dynamic organization. I can assure you that the return on your investment will be multiplied many times over.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your president this year. It has been pure pleasure! Thank you to this year’s board and to all who stepped up to make this an extraordinary year of accomplishment for this chapter.
See you at our June 19th meeting to celebrate the installation of the new board and to hear Billie Dragoo, the incoming President of the national NAWBO board.
With warmest regards,
Merri Jean Jones
