President’s Letter February 2012

image Members, new members and visitors, thank you for taking time to visit our website.  As I write this message I am in the mist of the “2012 N.M. Legislative Session”.  As a lobbyist, I have the opportunity to represent NAWBO and my clients on various business and industry issues that are important to all of us.

A 30 day legislative session typically focuses on budgetary items however this year’s session has a number of other bills that have been introduced and accompanied by a message from the Governor.  I imagine our legislators, lobbyists and legislative staff will be quite busy for the next few weeks.

NAWBO N.M. will focus on two main issues this year, the redesign of the N.M. tax code and the reorganization of the PRC.  A number of bills have already been introduced related to both these issues.

NAWBO will be engaged in the legislative process by participating in committee meetings, communicating and educating our legislators on our position and advocating for issues that advance and support business in New Mexico.

I wish to thank NAWBO members, visitors, our moderator, Nancy Salem, and panelists for participating in our New Mexico United States Senate Candidate Forum on January 24th.  I appreciate you traveling to Santa Fe!  A special thank you to our sponsors, the N.M. Prosperity Project and the Northern N.M. Supplier Alliance; and to Joan Schlueter, Public Policy Director for organizing and facilitating this event.

Please join on for our monthly meeting on February 15 to hear why face-to-face networking is still one of the best ways to make a positive first impression, and to build your business. Have a successful and prosperous February!
