May President’s Letter

image Wow!  What a great Speak Out! our NAWBO Public Policy committee presented last month!  Many thanks to Kay Carrico and Johanna Tighe who co-chaired the event and to Samantha Lapin who chairs the committee.  We had representatives of all of our congressional offices and the governor’s office, plus numerous state senators and representatives.  It was an unusual opportunity for you and your guests to let our political leaders know the impact of their decisions on our businesses.  Thanks to all of you who participated.

On May 18th, we will be treated to a reception by our Corporate Partner, Embassy Suites, in honor of our Corporate Partners, Platinum members and the recipients of our annual Kudos awards.  This year we are reviving the Tough Cookie award to a business person (member of NAWBO, or not) who has endured tough challenges and overcome them to achieve success in her or his business.  If you have encountered excellence among NAWBO members and would like to nominate them for a Kudos award or know of someone deserving of our Tough Cookie award, please send your nomination to Joan Schlueter at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)  by May 13th.  Please remember that Kudos recipients cannot currently be serving on the board.  Also at our May gathering we will be voting on our excellent state of officers and directors for next year, as well as the bylaws revision that has been approved by the board.  Please take a look at those changes and be ready to cast your ballot on May 18th.  The price of the meeting has been reduced to $10 for members and $15 for guests since it will be a reception rather than a dinner.  It’s a great chance to network with members you may not know well, so bring your business cards!
Many thanks to our Communications Committee and especially to Jeannie Springer who spear-headed the pilot LinkedIn project.  The NAWBO New Mexico group is now up and running and the goal of 50 members by the end of April was reached.  If you’re not “Linked” we’d love to have you join us and get the latest scoop!
I hope you’ll continue to give your ideas for improving our chapter to any member of the current board of directors or any of the soon-to-be-elected members.  I look forward to seeing you at our appreciation reception at the Embassy Suites at 5:30pm on May 18th.
