Committees - Get Involved!
We provide a variety of opportunities for members to participate in our chapter life and encourage their active involvement in our committees. Our primary goals are to enable members to improve their leadership skills by applying their unique talents and interests to serve our members.
All Chapter members are welcome and encouraged to get involved. No matter how much time you have to devote, we can find something that will match your interests. Whether it’s an hour a month or assistance with a specific program or event, your help will be appreciated and acknowledged. The Communications committee encompasses the subcommittees of Internal Communications, Public Relations, and Awards.

Internal Communications Subcommitee
The Internal Communications Subcommittee is responsible for all print and electronic chapter communications that occur outside of regularly scheduled meetings, including the newsletter, meeting announcement postcards, the web site, the chapter membership directory and broadcast e-mail/Listserv communications.
Newsletter:
A monthly newsletter is published electronically to keep members up to date on recent events, committee work and accomplishments of our members.
Meeting Announcement:
A monthly dinner meeting announcement is published electronically detailing the program and member spotlights. Additional announcements are published electronically or via “snail mail,” as needed.
Web Site:
The Member Communications committee maintains the chapter web site, performing monthly event updates, edits to partners, management of forums and uploading of files. The home page features a monthly member spotlight and news of upcoming events.
Membership Directory:
A directory of chapter members is maintained on the web site for viewing and printing by members. Members are responsible for updating their own contact information.
Broadcast E-mail/Listserv:
A Listserv address is maintained for e-mail broadcasts of official NAWBO business to all members. Only board members and the chapter’s executive director may post messages.

The Awards Committee has the following responsibilities:
- Researches award opportunities on a local and national level
- Notifies members of award opportunities
- Assists with writing nomination letters
- Coordinates the chapter’s annual Kudos and Tough Cookie Awards

The Public Relations Committee handles internal and external public relations.
- Works with the executive director and communications committee regarding meeting notices and other PR communications to members
- Sends program announcements and press releases about the chapter to media outlets
- Works with graphic designers on promotional displays, brochures, and other advertising and marketing
- Finds advertising and marketing opportunities for the chapter
- Solicits or co-writes press releases from other committees
- Secures media presence at key NAWBO events
- Coordinates NAWBO presence at appropriate non-NAWBO events

Economic Development
This is a multi-focused committee. One area will be fundraising for the chapter through Corporate Partners and Platinum Members. The other focus is Procurement (matching women businesses with major corporate and government contracts) and Capital (matching women-owned businesses with sources of capital to help them grow).

Facilities & Bar Sponsors Subcommittee
The Facilities Subcommittee coordinates our monthly meeting location and arranges any equipment and/or special needs for our speakers.

Programs & Spotlight Tables Subcommittee
These members work together to develop ideas to make our monthly dinner meetings productive, entertaining and a great value to our members. From selecting topics and speakers, to coordinating travel and hospitality considerations for presenters, to purchasing speaker gifts, the Programs Subcommittee is at the heart of every meeting.
The Programs Subcommittee also organizes the monthly member spotlights. The member spotlight is a unique and beneficial opportunity for member businesses to get the word out about their products and services. Members who reserve a member spotlight will receive a six-foot display table and 60 seconds in the spotlight to present their message at a monthly meeting.

The Education Subcommittee assists young women and other non-traditional business owners to become entrepreneurs. The work of this committee involves supporting emerging business owners identified by WESST Corp and other community organizations, establishing long-term relationships with organizations that are training young, future entrepreneurs.

Finance
The Finance Committee develops and implements the chapter’s financial policies and procedures. Members with or without a financial background and those who want to learn about the financial world are welcome. This committee also gives members an opportunity to meet other chapter members; Finance Committee members are the friendly faces members and guests see when they check in for the monthly meetings.

International Forum
The International Forum committee seeks to build awareness of the possibilities and opportunities for international cooperation and trade among women business owners.
The International Forum Committee meets the first Friday of each month.

The Membership Committee recruits and mentors new members, maintains contact to assess their satisfaction with NAWBO, answers questions that members may have about their membership and welcomes members at all activities. It also coordinates the Member Appreciation and New Member Orientation events. Subcommittees include Recruitment, Retention, Advisory Board, Satellite Meetings, and Mastermind.

Public Policy
The Public Policy Committee is the link between NAWBO National and our chapter. It provides many opportunities for members to become active participants in molding the small business climate of New Mexico and the nation. This committee also keeps members informed of the public policy issues we should be aware of on both the national and state levels and fosters positive change for women-owned businesses through education, grassroots efforts, coalition with other business groups and advocacy by members. The National and Chapter Public Policy Committees are non-partisan; we support legislation and legislators that are dedicated to small businesses, including minority- and women-owned businesses. Public Policy organizes the annual Speak Out, Santa Fe Business Days, and is a liason to the NAWBO Public Action Committee (PAC).
