Many women in the NAWBO-NNM Chapter have won prestigious awards. Such as:

2007/2008 KUDO Award Winners (for the complete presentation, click here):

Supporter of the Year is awarded to the member who supports NAWBO women and provides the springboard that sets the standard as idea developer and innovator of program. The 2007/2008 Support of the Year KUDO Award went to Deb Steg of Dynamic Metamorphosis

Mentor of the Year is awarded to the woman who has given openly and graciously not only of herself, but also of her business knowledge. The 2007/2008 Mentor of the Year KUDO Award went to Mary Bresnahan of The Bresnahan Group

Advocate of the Year is awarded to the woman who has been an ambassador for NAWBO no matter where she is. The 2007/2008 Advocate of the Year KUDO Award went to Dr. Janice Moranz - Janice F. Moranz, MD

Up and Coming Business Owner of the Year is awarded to the person who has been in business less than three years and is not only successful, but has also achieved substantially in a very short period of time. The 2007/2008 Up and Coming Business Owner of the Year KUDO Award went to Stephanie Luna & Kristin Wallin of Wallin & Luna Counseling Associates

Rookie of the Year is awarded to the new member who has been an active member of NAWBO for less than one year and who has become visible not only in NAWBO, but in the community a short period of time. The 2007/2008 Rookie of the Year KUDO Award went to Merri Jean Jones of Studio J Interiors, Inc.

Public Policy Advocate of the Year is awarded to the woman who has been a leader in support of NAWBO’s public policy positions. The 2007/2008 Public Policy Advocate of the Year KUDO Award went to Joan Schlueter of OnSite Hiring Consultants.

Woman Business Owner of the Year is awarded to the business owner who has gone that extra mile with her business in the interests of the community. The 2007/2008 Woman Business Owner of the Year KUDO Award went to Deb Austin of Office Alternatives, LLC.

Lisa J. Adkins and SolutionWerx, Inc. is the recipient of the 2008 DOE Small Business 8(a) and SDB Subcontractor of the Year award.

Phyllis Boverie has been elected president of the Silver Horizons board.  Silver Horizons is a charitable nonprofit organization that supports and honors seniors in our community.

Debbie Maestas Traynor was awarded the Home Based Business Champion of the Year during the 2008 Annual SBA New Mexico Small Business Awards celebration.

Debbie Jo “DJ” Heckes, owner and CEO of EXHIB-IT! Tradeshow Marketing Experts is one of 20 women across the nation to receive the honor in the category for 1 to 5 million revenues dollars as 2008 Enterprising Women of the Year. The award is presented each year by Enterprising Women Magazine, a publication for women business owners.  Heckes will accept her award at an awards banquet held February 29th in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Nancy Denker, owner of Focus Ink, Inc. is one of only 9 women across the nation to be named a 2008 Enterprising Women of the Year in the category for up to $1 million in revenues.

Samantha Lapin, president and CEO of POD, Inc. was presented with the 2007 New Mexico Information Technology & Software Association (NMITSA) award for Custom Software Solution.  The award is in conjunction with a project POD engineered for the NM Public Education Department.

Sandra L. (“Sandy”) Cody, president of Resources for Excellence, Inc. and immediate past president of our NAWBO chapter, has won the 2007 “New Mexico HR Award of Excellence” from The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) of New Mexico. New Mexico Heart Institute and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central New Mexico nominated Cody for this honor.

Debbie Jo “DJ” Heckes, owner and CEO of EXHIB-IT! Tradeshow Marketing Experts is New Mexico’s Small Business Person of the Year for 2007. The New Mexico Small Business Administration District Office recognized Heckes during national Small Business Week April 23 – April 24, 2007. “Small business is about people. That’s the lifeblood of EXHIB-IT! and New Mexico,” Heckes said. “We live and breathe the success of every customer at EXHIB-IT! Our core business involves relating to the person and their total tradeshow needs.”  Heckes founded EXHIB-IT! in 2000. Since that time her role as CEO has been synonymous with that of a small business leader. At a time when her business was growing more than 100%, Heckes was active in seven chambers in New Mexico and Texas. To that list she adds a host of additional membership organizations including, and National Association of Women Business Owners, Albuquerque Economic Development, American Marketing Association, Women in Communication, E-Women Network, and Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau.

In addition DJ has also received the following awards in 2007:
1.  February 2007: Top 10 Women of Influence from New Mexico Business Weekly.
2.  March 2007: Corporate Citizen Award from Greater Albuquerque Chamber of
Commerce.
3.  April 2007: #8 Fast Tracker out of top 100 companies given by the New Mexico
Business Weekly

Carole Petranovich of Computer Corner, Inc. was also honored as one of the Top 25 Women in business in New Mexico.  This is the 14th year she has been in the Top 25, and the only woman in NM who has been on the list since the award began.

Jane S. Blume, owner of Desert Sky Communications, Inc., received the SBA’s 2007 NM Home-Based Business Chamption of the Year award.  Jane received this honor in recognition of her efforts to educate business owners about publicity and promotion; her leadership role in professional associations with a significant home-based business membership base; and her work on behalf of comprehensive health care reform, which has the strong potential to benefit owners of home-based businesses

Mary Bresnahan, owner of the the Bresnahan Group, received NAWBO’s “Advocate of the Year” in June 2007.

Janice Moranz became a Gold Director in March, 2007 with USANA, giving her the ability to earn bonuses.  She was also #8 in the entire company for the number of Preferred Customers enrolled.

Robin Dozier Otten, owner of RDO Strategic Consultants LLC, was honored to receive the NAWBO National Public Policy Advocate of the Year.  It was awarded in Washington, DC at NAWBO’s Public Policy Days last February.
